In Malaysia, which one is cheaper – subscribing to Astro pay TV or Internet service?
I’m looking to subscribe to either source of information for news and entertainment.
Both are almost the same.
For Astro, the cheapest package starts from RM37.95 per month, however, the price doesn’t include news channels such as CNN, BBC, etc. The news channels are part of mini package, and you are required to take two mini packages which will amount to RM 49.95 per month. The installation is usually free (normally with 1 or 2 years contract) but the satellite dish will cost you RM 199.
For Internet, most ISP requires you to sign up a contract for a minimum 1 year, 18 months or 2 years. The price starts from RM 49 for the lowest package. For wireless broadband, it’s a lot more expensive. Celcom has a no-contract broadband Internet which starts from RM68/month, however, you will need a modem which costs RM230.
Of course, you can still get the dial-up prepaid, but nobody uses them anymore, do they?
